What colleges have you attended?
From Diploma to B.Tech: My College Life at BOSE, Cuttack and GCEK, Bhawanipatna
The crisp air of a small village school still lingers in my memory. Back then, the idea of college felt like a distant dream, a shimmering mirage on the horizon. But fueled by an insatiable curiosity for all things electrical, I took my first steps towards that dream after matriculation.
BOSE, Cuttack: Where It All Began
My first taste of college life came at BOSE, a technical school in Cuttack. Though technically not a college in the strictest sense, for a boy from a village stepping into those halls, it felt like a whole new universe. The workshops hummed with a symphony of whirring machines and clanging metal, a music that resonated with the rhythm of my own ambition.
Those three years at BOSE were a whirlwind of learning. Textbooks transformed into portals to a world of circuits and electrical principles. Days were spent dissecting complex diagrams, while nights were fueled by endless cups of chai as I wrestled with practice problems. The camaraderie with my fellow students, all united by a shared passion for engineering, forged friendships that I cherish to this day.
A New Horizon: GCEK, Bhawanipatna
After conquering the diploma at BOSE, my thirst for knowledge only grew stronger. So, with a heart full of anticipation and a backpack full of dreams, I embarked on a new chapter at GCEK, Bhawanipatna. Leaving the familiar confines of Cuttack was daunting, but the prospect of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering propelled me forward.
Those 400 kilometers that separated Bhawanipatna from my hometown felt like a bridge to a future I was actively building. The sprawling campus of GCEK became my new stomping ground, each lecture hall and laboratory a stepping stone on my path to becoming an engineer.
Beyond the Textbooks: The Lessons That Matter Most
College wasn’t just about textbooks and exams. It was a crucible where I discovered not just engineering concepts, but also myself. Late-night study sessions fueled by hostel canteen fare turned into philosophical debates that stretched into the wee hours. The independence of college life taught me valuable lessons in time management, discipline, and the importance of building a strong network.

Looking back, my college journey was more than just acquiring a qualification. It was a metamorphosis, a transformation from a wide-eyed village boy to a confident engineer. The experiences, the friendships, the late-night cram sessions – they all became the building blocks of the person I am today.

A Poem: Ode to My Colleges
Here’s a short poem dedicated to the colleges that shaped my journey:
From village halls to workshops grand,
BOSE, my first step, a helping hand.
With circuits and wires, my passion ignited,
A foundation strong, my future sighted.GCEK, a new horizon, a distant call,
400 kilometers, I stood up tall.
Lectures and labs, a thirst to know,
An engineer’s dream, began to grow.More than classrooms, these halls became,
A crucible of growth, a whispered name.
Friendships forged, lessons learned and shared,
The engineer within, lovingly prepared.

Looking Ahead: The Journey Continues
The journey from a village school to the hallowed halls of colleges was a testament to the power of dreams and unwavering determination. Today, as I stand on the threshold of a fulfilling career, I carry the lessons learned at BOSE and GCEK close to my heart. They serve as a constant reminder of the transformative power of education and the unwavering spirit that resides within us all.
