How Often Do I Walk or Run?

As a loco pilot, walking is an integral part of my daily routine. Many people ask me how often I walk or run, and the truth is, walking is almost second nature to me because of my job. Every day, I walk substantial distances just to perform my duties, and it’s not always as simple as strolling along a smooth path.

Whenever I report for duty, I find myself walking across vast railway platforms to reach the engine of the train, which is usually positioned at one end of the station. This is no short stroll – the platforms can be lengthy, and I’m usually carrying my luggage and a backpack filled with essential items like accessories, my lunch box, and 3-4 liters of water. These walks often include navigating foot overbridges, which adds another layer of physical effort.

Aside from walking to the engine, I frequently find myself moving around the station. There’s always something that requires me to walk back and forth, whether it’s between the station, the running room where I take my breaks, or the crew lobby where my work is assigned and managed. The continuous movement throughout the day can feel like a workout in itself.

An Exercise 🚶🏻🏃🏻

When I’m off duty, I make time for walking in the evening whenever possible. Even though my job involves a lot of walking, I still try to get in around 1 kilometer of brisk walking in the evening to keep myself active and refreshed. Walking in the evening feels like a personal moment of relaxation after a busy day at work. It’s not just about staying fit, but also about unwinding from the day’s activities.

Apart from this, I also walk to nearby markets to pick up groceries. Living an active lifestyle naturally means that I often prefer walking rather than driving for short errands. Walking to the market is a small, regular activity, but it adds up over time and helps keep me moving.

In conclusion, walking is a major part of my daily life, not just in my professional duties but also in my personal routines. While I may not always be running marathons or jogging long distances, the regular walking I do helps keep me fit and active. It’s a practical, enjoyable way to stay healthy while navigating the demands of being a loco pilot.
